The Town of Pittsford's annual appointment-only Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event will again be combined with our Electronics Recycling and Document Shredding program and held Saturday, May 13, 2023 in collaboration with the Town of Perinton at the Perinton Highway Garage, 100 Cobb's Lane, from 7:45am to 12:00pm. Up to 30 gallons of allowed HHW materials per appointment will be accepted at no charge. The list of accepted and non-accepted hazardous materials is noted below.

Certified document shredding (residential only) will also be available at no charge. No appointment is necessary for recycling electronics or shredding documents only. Please note waste and shredding from businesses cannot be accepted. To ensure safety and reduce waiting times, appointments are required for HHW collection; an appointment is NOT necessary for electronics recycling and/or document shredding only. HHW appointment scheduling will be available as of Monday, April 3, 2023. Pittsford and East Rochester residents can make an appointment by calling 248-6250 on or after April 3, 2023 or going online to https://www2.monroecounty.gov/ecopark/ on or after April 3, 2023. HHW appointments must be reserved by Friday, May 12 but please note appointments may fill up well in advance of the event so early registration is encouraged.

The HHW collection will accept up to 30 gallons of the following materials per appointment at no charge: oil-based and latex paint, wood stain and preservatives, automotive fluids (antifreeze; brake, power steering and transmission fluids), pesticides and fertilizers, flammable products (gasoline, kerosene, thinners, strippers, solvents), household cleaners (liquid soaps & waxes, drain cleaners, etc.), driveway sealer, pool and photo chemicals, rechargeable (Ni-Cad) and button batteries, mercury (thermometers, thermostats), syringes/sharps (safely packaged).

Please do not bring: used motor oil or vehicle batteries (contact service station or retailer), propane tanks (bring to permanent HHW facility only), cans with dried paint (if it rattles when shaken, remove lid and place in trash), empty containers (trash or recycle), glazing/spackle and joint compounds (trash).

No appointment is necessary if you are only recycling electronics. Certified document shredding (residential only, 4-5 box limit, no need to remove staples/paperclips) will also be offered free of charge.

If residents are unable to take advantage of this one day HHW collection, the County offers other collections throughout the year. For more information, or for business waste disposal options go on-line at https://www2.monroecounty.gov/ecopark/.
