Pittsford Community Solar Program

Community Solar Public Info Meeting Video Online

If you are interested in the Town of Pittsford’s Community Solar program but missed the previous online public information meetings, Monroe Community Power has posted a meeting video online – view it here: https://www.facebook.com/MonroeCommunityPower/videos/459602168551829

We’re pleased to announce a new Town program to give residents and small businesses access to renewable energy with savings for participants: Community Solar.  As a community, we are proud to be taking steps to achieve local environmental goals. The Town of Pittsford is happy to be partnering with the Towns of Brighton and Irondequoit, the Village of Pittsford, Joule Community Power, and our local partner Roctricity, to form Monroe Community Power.

Through Monroe Community Power, the Town of Pittsford is now offering our residents and small businesses a fully vetted community solar program.  Those who choose to participate in this program will be able to subscribe to a local community solar project, support the generation of renewable energy, and can save up to 10% on their entire RG&E electricity bill.

Residents (homeowner or renter) and small businesses who enroll in Community Solar can:

  • Access the benefits of solar without needing to install solar panels on their rooftop or property*
  • Save up to 10% annually on their electricity costs
  • Support the development of clean, renewable electricity in NY State
  • Participate without risk because participants may cancel without penalty at any time

*Please note: those who have their own solar panels or participate in another solar program already receive solar credits and therefore are ineligible to enroll in a community solar program.

The Community Solar program helps the Town achieve its environmental goals. It creates a fund for sustainability projects in Pittsford – paid for by the third-party program administrator, Joule Community Power. For every enrollment, the administrator contributes $50 to the Pittsford Sustainability Fund.

Enroll and learn more at www.monroecommunitypower.com/enroll.

For answers to any questions you may have, and to receive help with enrollment, call our local program partner Roctricity at (585) 244-0244.

Community Solar represents the next step in Pittsford’s longstanding commitment to a healthy and sustainable environment. We’re pleased to be able to offer it to our residents and small businesses.

COMMUNITY SOLAR VIRTUAL PUBLIC INFO MEETING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2021

As a member of Monroe Community Power, the Town of Pittsford is increasing its support of locally generated renewable energy, while lowering the electricity costs for Town residents and small businesses. A letter mailed to all households in the Town provided information about our Community Solar program and our upcoming virtual public information meeting to be held February 22 from 6:00 – 7:00pm. See details below.

For each enrollment in our Community Solar program, the program administrator will donate $50 to a Town of Pittsford Sustainability Fund, which will be used for a future project for our community. By signing up to participate in our Community Solar program, Town of Pittsford residents have already helped raise $13,500 for the fund.

Community Solar gives residents and small businesses an opportunity to get involved in the clean energy movement and benefit from solar energy without installing solar panels. By enrolling in Community Solar, participants will save up to 10% on their electricity bill. Please note, those who have their own solar panels already receive solar credits and are not eligible to enroll in the Town’s Community Solar program. The Town of Pittsford’s Community Solar program is open to all residents (owners and renters) and small business owners within the RG&E utility account area.
