The Town of Pittsford Sewer Department’s staff of 9 provides support services regarding construction, operation and maintenance of the Town’s sewer systems and drainage network. Sanitary sewer service is available to about 70% of the Town. Those not serviced by public sewers utilize privately owned septic systems that fall under the jurisdiction of the Monroe County Health Department
Under the direction of the elected Town Board, the Pittsford Sewer District operates and maintains about 250 miles of sanitary and storm transmission main and over a dozen pump stations. In addition, the staff is actively engaged in reviewing and monitoring the design of new utilities, inspection of their construction, and planning for the Town’s future needs. Sanitary sewage is eventually conveyed to a series of interceptors maintained by Monroe County Pure Waters where is then treated at the Frank E. VanLare Wastewater Treatment plant on the shore of Lake Ontario.
Plumbing contractors, firms or corporations conducting the business of sewer installation, alteration or repairs within the Town are required to obtain an annual plumbing license from the Building Department prior to conducting such business. State and local regulations apply to all sewer work done within the Town of Pittsford.
