Town and Rotary to offer Pittsford Community Bike Drop and Rodeo

A community-wide collection of used bicycles as well as an educational bike safety rodeo are planned for Saturday, May 7 from 10AM to 2PM in the parking lots of Pittsford Mendon High School (472 Mendon Road) and Thornell Farm Park (480 Mendon Road). The Pittsford Community Bike Drop and Rodeo is free and open to the public.

Used bicycles will be collected by Pittsford Rotary and donated to R Community Bikes, Inc., a Rochester-based organization that repairs and distributes bicycles free of charge to Rochester's needy children and adults. Its mission is to meet the basic transportation needs of those in the community who depend on bikes to get to work, school, rehabilitation programs and training sessions, as well as for recreation. More information about R Community Bikes, Inc. can be found at Receipts will be provided documenting all donations.

The interactive bike rodeo will teach children and parents the importance and basics of bicycle safety, such as rules of the road, wearing a helmet, proper ways to cross a street, hand signals, and basic bicycle maintenance. Other activities will include helmet fittings, bike inspections, and skill stations, such as tight turns and stop on a dime, as well as prizes and drawings. Please bring your own bike and helmet in order to participate in the activities.

As children and parents begin to take their bikes outside for the season, please join us for what is sure to be a fun-filled day of all things bikes and ride your way into a safe and healthy summer!
