SUPERVISOR CARPENTER RESIGNING TO ACCEPT WATER AUTHORITY POST

Pittsford Town Supervisor Bill Carpenter is resigning in order to accept the position of Deputy Executive Director of the Monroe County Water Authority.  He formally submitted his resignation to Pittsford Town Board at their meeting last night.  His resignation will take effect November 23.

“It is with mixed emotions that I have turned in my resignation to the Pittsford Town Board.  For the past 32 years I have dedicated myself to preserving, protecting, and guiding the Town of Pittsford – a place that I love to call my home” said Supervisor Carpenter. “I am proud of the achievements that I, along with many dedicated town employees, have accomplished during this time. With this said, I am excited for the new challenge that the Monroe County Water Authority offers and I look forward to this next chapter in my career.”

“I have complete faith that the Town Board will ensure Pittsford’s record of strong and effective leadership continues” said Mr. Carpenter, “and I know our senior management and all Town staff will carry on the outstanding programs and customer service for which Pittsford is well known.”

Mr. Carpenter has served the Pittsford community for 32 years, joining the Town staff in 1980 as Commissioner of Public Works and serving for the past 19 years in the elected position of Town Supervisor.  Highlights of Supervisor Carpenter’s tenure include:

  • Development (1995) and update (2009) of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan
  • Adoption of the Town’s Greenprint Plan which permanently protected 2,000 acres of Town land (1996)
  • Planning and construction of the Pittsford Community Library, which opened in 2005
  • Founding member of the Town/Village/School District Collaborative Agreement & Leadership Team (begun in 2003 and currently ongoing)
  • Establishment  in 2010 of the Finger Lakes Municipal Health Insurance Trust, a consortium developed to allow local towns and villages to purchase health insurance collaboratively
  • Parkland improvements, including creation of King’s Bend Park in 2003, the Pittsford Veteran’s Monument in 2006, most recently improvements to Port of Pittsford Park which was re-dedicated in June this year (2012)
  • Establishment of several annual community events including the Pittsford Celebrates (1996) and Positively Pittsford (2001)festivals, the Family Halloween Fest (2002), the Pittsford Triathlon (2004), Family Outdoor Movies (2008) and expansion of the Summer Concert Series.
  • Opening of the Pittsford Senior Center (2004) and expansion of senior programs
  • Nine straight years of no increase to the town tax rate

Deputy Town Supervisor Sandy Zutes will oversee day-to-day operations in the Supervisor’s absence. The Pittsford Town Board will ultimately appoint a person to fill the balance of the remaining term which expires at the end of 2013.
